A number of Ben’s trustees would very much like to have attended Andrew’s funeral and commemoration but sadly are unable to do so. I am speaking on behalf of the trustees when I say that Andrew’s contribution to the development of Ben’s retirement community at Lynwood Village was immeasurable. Indeed, without his input and oversight this would never have been developed.

Creating a new nursing home and retirement village on a green belt site was never going to be easy and trustees had their fair share of challenges and crises in the process. Throughout it all, Andrew consistently brought good humour and often novel solutions to such problems and frustrations. Trustees admired and heavily relied upon his professional rigour in the ‘hand-to-hand’ combat he excelled in when dealing with planners, contractors and subcontractors!

The Chairman of Ben’s Lynwood Development Committee commented that Andrew always helped to make his task more straightforward and less stressful. Our plan is to plant a commemorative tree at Lynwood to recognise Andrew’s lasting legacy there. We hope that in due course Sharen, Betty and the family will be able to take part in that event.
